Mt Longonot Expedition & Hells Gate.

The spire solo standing in the riftvalley, you see it as you head down into the riftvalley or towards the riftvalley....thats it Longonot...there is a huge crater on top of it.
I am guessing that you know a crater only that you have never been on its rim or you wonder what in it..
You know I used to wonder about craters and I always wanted to go into one and look for precious diamonds and hidden treasure....., yup and even get bitten by a neanderthal bug n have superpowers like be able to smell animals and follow human tracks....or see snakes fighting in the crater...
Anyways, weeks before this we planned this trip but I in the middle of my exams...such trip would necesarilly need alot of preparation but I am always the backpacker type who works with fate and always assumes things will work ok. So no phone calls for booking a hotel, but of course i know all the detail about getting there, how to get there, what to bring, where to stay etc...you can say something like a lonely planet on foot..

Armed with a letter from KWS which we got at the last minute, we got to kws gate longonot national park...maybe 1 hr after we left nairobi n another 30 min at the longonot railway station where we had to "mustafapee".

There is amazing birdlife at the gate and a number of school buses drove by with eyes turned left..a lot of eyes as we were in a group of ten looking very outdoorsy .....and the kids were in their uniforms....
